Why I Wrote "Love Me Like a K-Drama"

Like many readers and viewers, I have always enjoyed K-Dramas. Their stories are filled with unforgettable moments, grand confessions, perfectly timed gestures, and romances that seem larger than life.

But somewhere along the way, I found myself wondering: what happens when those expectations meet reality?

That question became the starting point for "Love Me Like a K-Drama".

Through Jina's journey, I wanted to explore the gap between the love stories we dream about and the relationships we actually experience. Many of us grow up surrounded by romantic ideals. We imagine dramatic declarations, perfect timing, and magical moments that solve every misunderstanding. Real life, however, is rarely that simple.

The more I wrote, the more I realized that real love often looks very different from what we see on screen.

It may not arrive with dramatic music or grand speeches. Instead, it appears in small acts of care. It remembers your favorite coffee. It notices when you are tired. It stands beside you during ordinary days and difficult moments alike.

Minho became an important character for this reason. He is not the typical dramatic hero. He represents something quieter but far more lasting. Through him, I wanted to show that genuine love is often found in consistency, kindness, and presence rather than spectacle.

At its heart, this novel is not a criticism of K-Dramas. In fact, it was written with great affection for them. It is a celebration of romance while also reminding us that real relationships are allowed to be imperfect.

If readers take away one message from this story, I hope it is this:

The most beautiful love stories are not always the ones we watch on screen. Sometimes they are the ones we live every day, one small moment at a time.
