Welcome Rain

June 06, 20263 min read

For weeks, everyone around me had been saying the same thing.

"When will it rain?"

The sky would gather clouds, tease us for a while, and then change its mind. Every weather forecast promised relief. Every evening we looked up hopefully. And every morning we woke up to the same warm, stubborn sunshine.

Naturally, I joined the club of impatient rain lovers.

I imagined the first shower. The smell of wet earth. A hot cup of tea. The gentle sound of raindrops against the window. Everything felt perfectly cinematic in my mind.

Then the rain finally arrived.

And with it came traffic jams.

Power fluctuations.

Wet slippers.

Clothes that refused to dry.

Unexpected leaks that nobody had noticed before.

Suddenly, the beautiful rain had become a practical challenge.

I found myself laughing at how quickly my imagination and reality had collided.

The rain was exactly what I had wished for.

Just not in the way I had imagined it.

And perhaps that is true for many things in life.

We wait eagerly for opportunities, success, holidays, relationships, and new beginnings. We picture only the pleasant parts. We rarely imagine the inconveniences that arrive alongside them.

Yet those inconveniences do not make the experience less valuable.

The rain still cools the earth.

The opportunity is still worth taking.

The relationship is still worth nurturing.

The dream is still worth pursuing.

Sometimes happiness arrives carrying a few muddy footprints.

And maybe that is perfectly alright.

That evening, as I watched the rain continue outside my window, I smiled and poured myself another cup of tea.

After all, I had asked for the rain.

I simply forgot to ask for the perfect version of it.
